I have a friend who lives in Macau and his father encountered a coin which states it is a "gold ceritificate," (misspelled certificate) and is dated 1923 and the amount is 10000 dollars with no comma. On the front of the coin is printed "United States" and then below it "Federal Reserve System." To me this seems like a fraudulent coin due to the incorrect spelling Asian style numbering of the quantity of dollars. If you have had any experience with these fraudulent coins or have seen them before I would greatly appreciate any input. I am aware that gold certificates in large amounts existed in the 20's but weren't they in paper/bill format?

Thanks for any help

I have attached some pictures he took of the coin

I think it is a novelty token. As far as I know, the gold certificates were all notes. I could not find any reference to such a coin on Google. By the way, welcome to the forum. I hope others can shed more light on this. Mike

Usually rare coins would be catalogued. Now, since you said Macau, Macau is quite close to China which produces some of the world's largest counterfeited coins as well as ridicious novolties.

Glad to see you joined!

After seeing the pictures, I concur that this is a novelty token, most probably of Asian origin.

I hope you stick around for a while.
