I didn't really know if I shouyld put this in the main forum or the ebay forum but wanted to reach the most viewiers possible because this is a MAJOR problem. This slab is not an original ANACS slab (it is do it yourself plastic holder) and the barcode is a dead giveaway (no bar code just abunch of 1's) not sure how they did the hologram (it may be original taken from an original ANACS slab). Just remember ALWAYS know what you are buying because this is a MAJOR problem and would love to see what ANACS would say about this http://cgi.ebay.com/Gold-Double-Eag...ue_W0QQitemZ220022833831QQihZ012QQcategoryZ39472QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Sheesh, it's a good thing that nobody's bid on this yet. Will ebay pull this type of auction? I mean ifcoin's not a fake, just the slab.

Bryan, I compared the slab with a couple (old) ANACS slabs I have. It looks to me that the seller has PhotoShopped out the original lettering and substituted his own on the image. The font is different - his is serif and ANACS's font is san-serif and it's slightly off angle. The whole thing looks fishy because of this, but he may have done it for some real or perceived security or other reason. At this price, a responsible buyer would request an unretouched image of the coin and additional images. And his feedback isn't so hot either. I don't think it's a fake holder, but I won't bet the farm on it. If it is, in fact just a PhotoShopped image, he could have at least mentioned this in the description and the reasons for the manipulation.

ok that may be true, the holder looks just like the CoinWorld holder I have here but they put the ANACS insert in it, I will put a ANACS insert I have here into mine and show what it would look like. I will say mine has the CoinWold logo on my slab but I will photoshop that out (like I thought maybe they had done) but Morganfred's description may also be true. No I did not report this because as whas asked, I am not sure ebay would even have a policy against this

I forwarded a link to the auction to James Taylor. Let's see what he thinks.

I also just noticed MorganFred's assumption about the bar code being photoshopped is inaccurate, if you look at the next to last "I" there is a scratch on the slab that crosses the "I" and if it was photoshopped the scratch would be under the "I" and its not, its above it so I believe it is a fake as I stated in the beginning

If they don't, it isn't because they haven't been informed.

I'd really like to see ANACS get involved with this. I'm not banking on ebay removing this, though, since there's only 4 hours left in the auction.

Good eye, Bryan! I didn't notice that scratch until you pointed it out.
The auction has been pulled because "the item is no longer available".

MorganFred I didn't see it at first myself until you mentioned the photoshop thing and I started looking closely at it and saw the scratch and carefully looked at it and saw it was over the I instead of the I being over it like it would if it was a photoshop job. I wonder if it has one of the "Omega Man's" forgeries in the holder

Here is a polite e-mail exchange I had with the seller. The auction has been canceled. Item: Gold Double Eagle 1927 St. Gaudens US $20 MS67 Antique ( 220022833831) This message was sent while the listing was active. joeyuk91r8 is a potential buyer. As you can tell from the number of hits this auction has been getting alot of attention. It appears to many the item pictured may not be in an authentic ANACS holder. As the seller/trading assistant of this item I just thought I would pass this along. Thank you, ebay Details for item number: 220022833831 Item title: Gold Double Eagle 1927 St. Gaudens US $20 MS67 Antique Item URL: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...E:B:AAQ:US:1 End date: Saturday, Sep 09, 2006 20:25:00 PDT Responce: Hi there, and thank you for your input.
