Come on guys, this shouldn't be a big surprise to any of you. After all they have fake every thing else don't they? Why do you think this would be any different?

At least the seller seems to be honest about it, or else got cold feet.

I wish the auction hadn't been killed as I would have like James to be able to see it. If any of you see another like this one, please let me know so that James can see it before it's removed.

Thanks.

I'm sorry. What is the benefit of seeing it while it is active or after it is closed?

here is the pictures from the auction, it is still up on ebay as well but I saved them just in case they took them off. I think the I's was a futile attempt at making a bar code and it bit them in the rear. I saw today that someone on CU forums has posted about the same auction also, so I guess this seller got ALOT of emails

I still wonder if the coin is a fake also, I would LOVE to study this coin (even though I know nothing about the series) just to see if it was one of the Omega Man's counterfit's (I have been looking for one of them since I read his story)

I thought that ebay had killed the auction - not that the seller had ended it early. If ebay kills an auction, you can't view it any longer.

I don't know about the holder but the coin would only get in spitting distance of an MS65 on very good day
Rest in Peace

The seller ended the auction early "because the item is no longer available". ebay doesn't give sellers very many options for reasons for ending an auction. It should include: "This auction is a fraud and I got caught.", "I ended it because in my stupidity, I listed it wrong.", "It was pointed out to me that I overgraded the coin by 11 points.", and "The made me do it."

Has anyone looked at the date on this coin? I've looked closely and MAYBE there is a mint mark?

Could it be a "D"? It wasn't noted on the slab label. Could even the coin be a fake?

Here's a blowup of the area...

that's what I was thinking also, even though I didn't notice the mint mark. But it definitely does look like a "D" to me as well. I believe if someone would have purchased this item they would have been really disappointed.

Edited to add:Welcome to the forum, Good eye you have there, gonna have to get you a eagle icon for having a eagle eye

Good thought, Marv and welcome to our CC family.

What you are seeing is not a mint mark. It's a design under the date. The mint mark on these coins is above the date.

that is a picture of Augustus St. Gaudens' monogram (an A superimposed on an S). Like Susan said the MM is above the date
