I'm new to the forum and was hoping you guys could help me grade some of my silver dollars and possibly identify any VAMs. This is probably the best looking Morgan I have. Picked it up recently for $27. I was guessing the grade was around MS-60 - MS-62, but I'm a rookie. The coin has a beautiful cartwheel luster that doesn't show in the scan. Thanks for the help.

A couple of hits on the rim and cheek but I still think it'll grade MS 65. I've seen 65s much worse. Maybe 66 but INE.

to the community This is an excellent strike for this mint, usually New Orleans mint coins have a weak strike. There are some marks on the face and field, but I think it might just make MS-64.

Looks like a 64 or a strong 63. $27 was an excellent price!

The reverse is very clean, and could potentially be graded at MS-64. However, there are too many marks on the obverse to fetch that high of a grade. I say MS62-63 by a top tier grading company.

very minimal bag marks on the OBV...I can see it in MS64 plastic but not MS65...If it were to grade MS62,,then the Millions of coins already holdered @64 would plummet and so would the integrety of the system....However I have lately seen some high graded coins being KNOCKED DOWN to AU58......Pristene coins mind you....

I'd like to call it a 64 if I were a seller and a 62 if I were a buyer, so I'll compromise with both of me and give it a 63

I give your 1884 O Morgan a MS64 bordering a MS 65. If you say that there is much more luster than in the photograph I would go for the higher grade. $27.00 was a killer price! You got the coin for less than melt value!

Nice example of an 1884-O. Even with the somewhat blurry photo, at least an MS64. Looks like fantastic luster..

This oldtimer humbly agrees with JPM's original estimation of MS60-62. There are too many marks on the sweet spots, cheek and neck, for it to make MS-63 by PCGS or NGC. SGS might "66" it though! Still, it's a fine purchase for $27 in today's market.

Looks like an MS-63 to me with a shot at 64 if the coin looks nicer in hand than the photos

Slight abbrasions as such will not bring the grade down to MS60-62...There would have to be visible, heavy contact marks/dings, which there are none...

my gut tells me is a MS-63 coin, its kind of hard to grade from scans but that would be the grade that struck me as soon as I looked at the coin the first time
