Hi Guys,
Here are a few more pictures. Do you think it is worth it for me to have the 1922 (48 coins)and 1923 (160 coins) silver dollars graded?

Having coins graded by TPG's can get expensive.
Try to learn the grading system (apologies if you already know it)
And if you have a few that grade high maybe send those of for slabbing.
As for me, I like raw coins. Mostly because they seem more easily attained
I checked out your other thread and I was floored by your collection. Enjoy it because it is awesome!

Somewhere I heard that a good rule of thumb is that if the coin is valued at less than $100 it isn't worth it to have them graded but I believe this advice is for people who want to flip for profit.

I would not personally have any of these (yet) graded by a TPG.

A few comments ...

The 1921 Morgan dollar appears to be in MS condition ... but there are a lot of these out there.

I have no knowledge of any of the Morgan dollars prior to 1921 ... others will need to weigh in with their respective views on them.

The last coin you showed does has some potential ... let's discuss what appears to be a 1928-S Peace dollar.

Your photos are a bit blurry ... confirm that the date is indeed 1928.

If so ... then the Mint Mark (on the reverse, below the 'ONE' and left of the tip of the eagle feathers) has to be an "S".

Are you with me ... can you verify that this is indeed an 1928-S Peace dollar?

If so ... you might have a valuable coin depending on it's actual condition (grade).

For example ... using Numismedia 1-08-2011 prices for a 1928-S Peace dollar ...

MS61 ... $204
MS62 ... $288
MS63 ... $494
MS64 ... $930
MS65 ... $20,310

Sooo ... what is it?

David

Hi Nickelsearcher,
The Peace dollar that seems to be a 1928 is actually a 1923. The scanner didn't a good job of it. I have 160 of them, 120 are still in the wrappers and they have never circulated. The 40 that are loose I think they are also uncirculated, its just that my dad had probably unwrapped them to get a good look at them. Some have gotten tarnished from sitting in a coffee can for decades.

I have ordered the book "Coin Collecting for Dummies" so maybe in a few weeks I'll move up from idiot to dummy. I'm just trying to learn what I have and how to get it ready for market. Obviously 160 identical coins is not a very exciting collection, then again maybe it is.

I don't know anything about grading, but it seems to me that uncirculated coins should be pretty high grade. None of 1923's seems to have any letter mint letters below the "ONE". What does that mean?
