If they were gouges across the field, they seem to be "behind" Lincoln. Otherwise, the gouges would have to run down into the recesses of the die in order for them to appear on Lincoln's face and bust like that. Maybe they are breaks. Report this Post to the Staff

See how it runs through the Y of LIBERTY? Definitely not die gouges - runs cleanly through recessed areas of the die. Definitely not die cracks or breaks - too straight. Report this Post to the Staff
