I bought this 1908 IHP on ebay for a dollar and change. The seller actually sent me the wrong coin, but I didn't bother to return it - mainly because it was not worth the trouble. The coin also appeared to have been struck with a broken die (reverse). What do you guys think? Does this increase the value? What do you think the grade and value is?

Ef40-45 and it does look to have a die crack.
Worth more? Depends on who you talk to, not to me.
Definitely worth more than a buck and change.
Nice pick up for sure.

Ditto on XF-45. Excellent purchase ... put me down for a roll of these!

On another note, the surface of this coin appear to me to need some gentle conservation. I'd humbly suggest dipping one end of a Q-tip in some acetone to softly swab the surfaces, edge, too!. They use the dry end of the Q-tip to remove the liquid. A soft cloth can also be used. Let the coin air-dry for awhile before carding it or putting it in any form of holder. My guess is that you'll then remove that green stuff, contaminants, that would eventually eat its way into the copper. You'll then be doing future conservators a favor.

Thanks, I was wondering what to do about the junk on the coin, but didn't want to harm the coin by cleaning.

You might try this on an old Lincoln Cent, first, so you feel comfortable about it. There are many collectors who regard this as cleaning, but it's arguably a form of conservation. I get a can of acetone from the hardware store and pour it into smaller bottles which I give to fellow collectors to try. Acetone tends to evaporate quickly, so keep it in a tightly closed bottle or can.
