Wow that almost looks like a double die. I'm far from an expert with double dies though. I do not own a single double die to increase my knowledge of them.

I think the lighting makes it too difficult to get any depth perception to determine anything. At least for me anyway.

When I see the number 1 and 4 in the date first thing pops up is double die. Then on the back the letter A and C looks like a double die also. Thats a very unique coin either way. To have that on the front and back wow.

Too many light sources. Even the rim can cast light back that makes a second light source. On the plus side the coin looks like an EDS from the images. No die flow/wear toward the rim. They always take the best pictures.

The better pic will have to wait until later this evening...can someone post an EDS decent picture. The date of this one threw me off because the raised-like numbers. Then the letters on the reverse...raised and pointy in the center. Now, as a newbie trying to educate myself with the great information here, I doubt if I ever took the time to see what a cent looks like straight off a brand new set of dies. Thanks for all of the info...all! Be back this evening with better pics and to see what else gets posted...you guys enjoy the warmer weather if you're getting some!

Again...no description of WHY you think this coin is odd. Just a simple question and a couple of images. We need more information. Please don't leave the guessing to us.

Much apologies to the experts here. I'm learning the terminolgy at a slower rate than I would like. With the date, The numbers, to me, have a pointed center on them. From my first pic, it's almost like someone drew a single 'line' down the center of each number. This is new and 'funky' to me. The same goes for the reverse and the lettering. This is the first time I've notice this look on the lettering. Once again...new and 'funky' to me. Goin to get a pic up from the camera....one sec...please and thanks!

My first picture in the first post was better. Maybe needs to be bigger?

What I believe you are seeing (and thank you for the more complete question) is the normal bevel of the characters for a 1984 cent. These were exaggerated until the design was changed again in 1986. If you are seeing "lines" down the middle of the letters, it's probably some sort of stacking damage.
A little photography help - do not use more than one light source to photograph coins close-up...ever. Then try to get the light source at the highest angle to the coin as possible when you do photograph the coin. In other words, what people want to see is the fields lit - not the sides of the letters. basically, if you have shadows most of the way around your letters you are far better off than having all the light on the sides of the letters and the shadow in the field surrounding the letters.
Most microscopic details show up far better with the lighting as I describe it rather than having it any other way.
