I picked up some new coins today and cannot find a way to get a good close up picture that shows the details in the coins......any suggestions to get good close ups? I am currently trying with a digital camera but it will not focus that close..... any advice would be appreciated thanks!

This sort of depends on your camera and you. For one thing if your camera does not have a macro setting, that makes it difficult to take close ups. However, if you have an assistant to help you, you could have someone just hold a magnifier in front of the lens or close to the coins. Next always make sure you hold your breath taking the photos so less movement.
And depending on the Megapixels of your camera, and the photo programs you may have, you could simply use a program to enlarge the photos.
And as noted there are separate forums here and almost on all coin forms on photography.

I was having the same problem. On my camera I found a "Manual" mode that allows me to really zoom in and still focus. Also, I found that shutting off the flash and shotting in bright sun light works pretty good.
