Is this a Gas Effect? And is the 2nd T in states after minting (damage)? It also looks like a die crack in E pluribus (E to the r)

The T in STATES looks like a Grease Filled Die. The E in PLURIBUS could be a die crack or a die gouge. I'm not seeing the GAS effect.

John1!
As far as the Gas Effect I was asking about the word STATES. It looks like the bottom of the letters are graduating from low to High at the top. The "A" looks almost non existing! Would this be the grease or from Gas?

That's just a weak spot in the design, and without a completely hammered strike, any cent could look like that one.

The area in question is exactly opposite the shoulder on the other side, and much of the metal from the strike goes to fill in the shoulder - so these letters do not get filled in completely. Same thing is very common on cents from the 1980s. The area around 'of' on the reverse is weak much more commonly than fully struck.

Agree with Chuck. It's an area on the reverse the mint has struggled with forever. This goes back to the Wheat cent design, the O in ONE was notorious for being weak due to it being opposite the shoulder.

Another note, after looking through some fresh BU rolls, this is also common on the 2011 cents too. As a collector I reject these as there's plenty with fully stuck reverses.
