Have many old commemorative bought in the eighties when their value was higher than what they are selling for today. I see a trend that their value is going up. Do you think this is due to the prices of gold and silver or because of supply and demand?

For the most part I don't feel any of the "classic" commerotaves are effected by the gold or silver price. Any comemorative will have a value far exceeding that of its metal content as long as it is not dammaged. The only exceptions would be the Columbian, Carver, and Booker halfs that had been curculated. Durring the Hunt brothers silver epesode these halfs were common in the "junk silver" I had the pleasure to cherry pick.

Very few of the classic commems would be truly affected by PM prices since the majority of classics are $100+ for silver and $500+ for gold(mostly dollars) in AU/MS grades. The Columbian, BT Washington, and Washington/Carver have a low enough value that they could be affected by fluctuating silver prices.

The lower overall numismatic value of the coin, the greater the influence of the of the bullion value in the coin.
