cashed in some scrap copper wire and turned into silver the crazy part is my dealer sold to me for silver weight rather than gray sheet because the gray sheet was too cheap ($27) so I threw in a bundle of 1/2 dollar and a bundle of nickels flips and offered him $30 cash we were both happy

Sweet coin. Wish I would have jumped on those commemoratives many years ago.

well like I stated they are worth more as silver than coins I am hoping over time that will switch but I had a hard time deciding between this one or an Edison Proof i went w/ this because of the tie in to the nickels and also uncs have half the mintage numbers heck it even 1/2 as many as a 16D Merc

Its kind of interesting how some modern commemoratives increase so much in value while others languish around spot. Obviously, mintage and units sold has a lot to do with it. I wonder what other factors go into the value a few years after issue?

Quote: well when ya think an MS67+ coin is worth more at Bullion value than numismatic I have to believe the prices will have to adjust The price will adjust once a bunch of them are melted. Commems have been minted far in excess of the number of collectors for 100+ years. You forgot the other tie-in coin, with Mary and the baby Jesus.

The amount of commems currently minted is in excess. This will change as the price of silver and gold increases and less are sold. However the pre 1940 commems are in shorter supply and the prices are on the rise. Commems are your best low cost investment now,old or new. Only my opinion.
