Hello all, I haven't been doing much on e-bay recently, but I happened upon this listing last week and even with the crappy picture, I thought it looked pretty good. I placed what I thought was a low ball bid and ended up winning it for $21.19 shipped to my door. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...t_500wt_1156Just got it in the mail yesterday and here are some shots. The obverse has a horrible scratch on Lincoln's profile which certainly knocks the coin down a lot, but I still feel I did pretty good for $21. My only example of a 1936 DDO#1. Obverse - showing the very unfortunate scratch. Reverse - scratched again! Date Trust In God Liberty - love the peg leg "R" over normal "R." This coin has certainly been around the block and I feel that the e-bay photo was a little deceptive. The seller definitely did a good job minimizing the obverse and reverse scratches! Overall, I still like the coin for the price and will keep it. Any thoughts on approximate value? Or, in other words - Did I do Ok ? Have a great week everyone! The pictures on ebay did a good job of concealing a lot of damage. And the seller didn't bother to mention the damage either.

I agree, that is a perfect example on how lighting can hide details and imperfections on the coin. If I didn't know better I would swear it wasn't even the same coin (it is going by different markers on the Obverse and Reverse) because they look like totally different coins

Tnwalker10,
Yes, I could easily have filed a SNAD (significantly not as described) claim, just based on the seller's pictures. I certainly would have done this had I paid any more for it. As it stands, I feel its still worth at least $21 so I am ok with it.
I will scrutinize this sellers pictures much more closely in the future, however!

Considering the value of this particular doubled die, I still think the purchase price was pretty good...even if you cannot return it for the coin listed in the lot.

Dang shame about that scratch, but I would pay $21 for those all day long.

I'll admit the lighting different, but I have no trouble seeing the scratches on the listing, and am sure it is the same coin.Nice score

Yes, I am actually quite surprised this didn't sell for more. However, it was pretty hard to be sure it was DDO#1 just based on the sellers pictures so, I think I got pretty lucky overall. Thanks for the comments everyone!

Quote: I feel that the e-bay photo was a little deceptive. I'm not quite sure how the scratch stops at the bridge of Lincoln's nose. I cannot say for sure it's not due to lighting, but my first impression was subtle editing work.

DVCollector,
I suspect some editing work as well, but in this case I am not going to make a big deal out of it. I will be much more cautious with this seller in the future, however.
