Near date; '79; not to shabby, worth the search. I'm still hooked on cents.

this my friend is the elusive wide rim or near date SBA if you will notice how close the date is to the rim compared to a normal 79 SBA
gimme a min and I will get a pic of a normal 79P

"Whats the value of something like that?"
for an MS 67 $1,340.00
but a AU 50 $6.90

i think this may go for an AU 58/ MS 62 $11-17

The point in my statement regarding fishing in dirt is that you would be doing so trying to find genuine die varieties in Presidential dollar rolls. The subject at the time was which denomination was the best for roll searching - and I answered Lincoln cents. When it comes to die varieties I would pick Lincoln cents first, dollars last...because dollar historically have a VERY VERY low return rate for anything collectible besides issue and grade.

The 1979P near date dollar is a decent variety that could possibly bring some premium - but I can tell you I had no trouble at all finding them in small quantities of coins when I was looking for them back in the late 1990s. I figured I'd find a bunch of them and turn some profit. Nothing doing - I couldn't GIVE them away. I ended up spending over a dozen of them in AU-MS grades. I think I sold ONE example on ebay that would grade around MS64, and I think I got a whole $7 for that one.
