what do you think the value of this coin in raw condition should be? And do you think the value will increase in time?

Haven't seen the actual mintage, but right now the price is around $500. Hard to say what the future is for the coin. Only a total of 444,000 of the burnished ASEs were minted.

Mintage is estimated at around 10% of total production which would easily make it the second toughest ASE after the 1995W proof.

What makes the difference of the regular to this one?

Has to do with the lettering style used for the reverse design. It was changed slightly for 2008 production and a 2007 reverse die was used for some of the coins.

Quote: The U.S. Mint press relations office provided some interesting information about this variety and the minting of Silver Eagles in general. Here are some of the facts they provided:
· Approximately 47,000 2008-W Silver Eagles were released with the 2007 reverse type.
· The reason for the change in hub is that the Mint has upgraded from using hand-engraved hub creation methods, to digital engraving methods.
· The Mint believes that 15 dies with the 2007 Reverse type were involved.
· The variety was created during 3 production shifts, which is how the Mint arrived at its estimate of the number of coins involved.
· The U.S. Mint marketing materials depicted the 2007 reverse type.
· The Mint did not plan for the hub change to happen mid-year, and has confirmed it was unintentional that the 2007 Reverses were used for 2008.
The diagnostics to determine whether or not your Silver Eagle has the 2007 reverse type are pretty simple to detect. The easiest difference to find is in the shape of the you in UNITED. On the 2007 dies, this letter has a straight-line you without a "spur." On the 2008 reverse dies, the letter you does have a "spur", which looks like the little added stroke usually seen on the lower-case U, which appears on the bottom right side of the letter.

What are you waiting for? Probably the same reasons why I have not photographed my 7070 for Bryan yet.

Quote: What are you waiting for? The ONLY drawback to having a collection stored in 3 Large Safety Deposit boxes at the bank.... .... convenience ! And it's a pain (and a strain !) to carry those 3 heavy boxes from the vault area to the "little room".......do my thing......and then carry them all back to the vault. All the ladies there at the bank learned a long time ago, and now know better than to even attempt to lift any of the boxes to "help" me. But I have been putting together another "batch" of coins that need to go down there......Proof, Mint, & Silver Proof Sets.....last years ASE's.....my "Error Jefferson nickel".....and a few more odd and end things.....so.....the time's a comin' !.........(just hope I don't forget to check those ASE's from '08 while I'm there ! (apparantly I usually DO !)

Eaglefoot - you are a lot more trusting of the Bank & Feds, with regard to safe deposit boxes, these days than I. Hope you don't become one of the ones that have their boxes illegally opened & contents confiscated. It turns out it is not that unheard of & Banking laws give then the right to do pretty much what they want.
I removed all my stuff months ago Good luck

Can someone explain why or what circumstances this happens? I have been contemplating getting a safety deposit box - but now I'm not sure what to do.
