Everything considering, that's a scary-good counterfeit... Gives me shivers

There were counterfeits of many coins that were made back in the 1800's. The most commonly counterfeited coins were half dollars, it seems. There's even a recent book that's been written about contemporary counterfeit Bust Halves. Indeed, I'll dig through some of my coins and see if I can post some pics of contemporary counterfeits on this thread; this, that you may see such "coins" for yourself.

For your sake and that of the collecting community at large, I sincerely would like to see you prove the majority of opinions here incorrect. Certification by PCGS or NGC would do that. It should be noted though that the PCGS previously certified many micro-O Morgan dollars that were later proven to be contemporary counterfeits which were likely made 100 years ago. In the lottery business, the old saying is all you need is a dollar and a dream. Certification will run you about $30-$40. I'm sure that a number of us here on the CCF would love to see how this pans out. Good luck!

It's a replica of a Barber Half that someone messed up the date on.

No half dollars were struck in San Francisco in 1890 and that type didn't start on any coin until 1892.

Here is a closer look at the "liberty" and the "date" for your examination.

I agree with everyone here. But you seem pretty much set on believing it's genuine. So send it in to PCGS or NGC and see what they have to say. Then come back and let us know what happens. That'll put this issue to rest.
