It looks like it was cleaned. I would not go over $25. You can find that date/MM in original/better condition elsewhere.

If you can get it in your $25 to $30 price range - go for it!

Thanks for the heads up on the cleaning, did not even realize that. I still want it to be authentically dirty so I may just take my business elsewhere! Thanks!

I don't see anything that screams harshly cleaned to me. I think the tint is from the bulb they used but most circulated coins have at least been wiped one time or another but as long as they don't show deep scratches from a harsh cleaning I don't see any problems with them. They are just circulated and rubbing against cloth is part of the circulation process

I like Morgans when they look like that. Kinda like a drawing. If it was recently cleaned you probably wouldn't see that much dark oxidation in the details.

if you are wanting to get the best looking coin in that price range from San Fransisco you may want to look at 1879-1883-S Morgans. they are generally struck with allot of pressure and cheap even in super high grades (you can get a MS-65 for around 100 bucks). So unless the date has to be 1890 there are allot of S MM Morgans that can be had in great condition very cheaply

I've decided to go ahead and attempt to get it. If it goes past my price range then I'll just keep searching. I'm not too concerned with dates or conditions. I'm not a serious collector, just interested in the history of the coins and such.

I have bought a medal through ebay, but I prefer buying coins from actual coin dealers (online or in-person). I would recommend a couple of online dealers but not really sure on the policy of suggesting other coin dealers on this bbs.

For me, the condition is too disappointing.

I agree about condition being important. At a coin show earlier in the month, I bought a Bust Dollar. Of the two, I picked the circulated coin with a lower grade over the cleaned coin with a higher grade.

That's a nice circulated coin with a pleasant antique patina. Certainly not for the lovers of the BU coins but in some ways just as sweet. Just don't pay to much because those are out there for close to (or at) melt value all the time. As a matter of fact they sell here frequently for nice prices.
