I just bought a box of pennies and some rolls of nickels. When I asked the teller I could see the gears start moving and then they quickly puttered out. "Do you own a concession stand?" No "Are you sure you want a box of pennies?" Yes "Do you just want a bunch of change or something?" Yep I could see was simply lost of why I would want a box of pennies. I didn't tell her why I just got my box and left her pondering.
Bout to look through them wish me luck...

Ha!
If they ask, I just tell them it's for personal use and wink... I once threw in a tidbit about copper being good for your digestive tract.

A. I the only one that just tells them what I'm doing? I actually brought my 99 WAM in to show the teller that gave it to me. Dunno works for me though...they save cwr's and stuff they think is cool for me!

No, amida17 I am honest with the tellers at the bank that I buy from. My dump bank has not questioned me.... yet. But they have only just begun seeing me regularly these last few months. None of my tellers save me cool stuff though, good for you for building that relationship

I was trying to get two boxes of pennies from a bank, and I was asked if it was for a business. When I said no, they said sorry. Banks around me just aren't too glad to help out. Oh well, my problem, not yours. Good luck with the searching.

Try to find out what days they get deliveries. Most around here seem to get new on thursdays. So yeah Tues and wed they may not have boxes to spare.

Of course you don't want to just ask when Brinks(or whomever delivers) Kinda suspect. But, I kinda listen never know what you might overhear.

Wear a ski mask and ask when Brinks will be there..That usually goes over well.

Just wondering - why would ANY concession stand need a BOX of pennies? If they do it right they can feed the tax man and still round everything to nickels.

LOL... Seriously though its not really an us against them situation. Most tellers (imo) are just doing their job and could not care less "why" you want the coins. Really is about interpersonal relations...

i had a nice convo with a teller a week ago and she said that " we dont look for coins, we dont have time to" this was after I asked if any old rolls or dated coins came through. I know for a fact they dont open rolls. BUT I have have received some very old wrapped dimes and they were new. which makes me think if they know the older looking ones, then they do.. o well. we are all too paranoid

At our bank you have to order online or in person what change you want in advance. They will send an email or phone call to tell you when you can make a pick up. The amount of coins you request is taken out of your account. It is a very good system, no wasted effort.

I have no idea why they would need that many pennies, but she was dead serious. When I said no she was so puzzled. I almost want to go back tomorrow and buy two more.
