It weight in 4.42 grams, slightly .5 grams under normal Buffalo nickel, it has a distinctive "ping" sound when drop instead of the "thud" sound. Thickness is same as other normal Buffalo nickels.
The surface is grainy with a wood like pattern, it doesn't stick to magnet either. Thoughts?
just looking at the pics, I might think about a vinegar/acid soaked coin. But I don't think that would affect the sound before affecting the thickness. Odd.
I'm a master of the vinegar tech so I ask my self .. Why would someone soak this coin in vinegar if the date is so clear and good ? Maybe just the pic !..
Here's another question, if soaking in vinegar, would that decrease the weight of the coin? and would it corrode it to have a grainy wood effect. Yes the date is clear, so I'd ask myself, why soak it, perhaps it was dirty in the beginning. But than the sound is not the same as other Buffalo nickels I had test it. I will post a picture of the side along with another Buffalo nickel next.
