I found a guy on a local site trying to sell or trade indian head pennies he has this 18 Indian Head pennies from VG - Fine Condition. Years are 1886, 2-1892, 2-1899, 3-1900, 3-1902, 2-1905, 3-1906 and 2 1909 What monetarily or silver wise would be a reasonable trade offer or buy offer 18 silver Roosevelt dimes? any ideas I don't deal with Indian Heads at all and that's why they are intriguing to me lol I have never even looked to buy any at the coins show I go to monthly so I am lost

You have to ask yourself: How much do I want those IHCs?

Honestly, the way silver has been running, I'd save the silver and pay cash. Just my opinon.
The Indians are more common dates. I don't think any of them are more than a buck or 2 a piece.

the 1886 and the 1909's are worth more, the others around a buck. Anything under 20 bucks would be a steal. And I agree...keep the silver and pay cash.

Your 18 silver dime are worth just over $45.00. I don't see where the IHC's will carry that value. IMO,I would try to pay cash & no more than $20.00.

see Moe145 this is why we ask I was perfectly content with paying the 45 dollars worth of silver for the pennies bad deal 8-10 dimes would be a better deal if I were to go that route but I'll see what this guy will go for I figured since I got the dimes from roll searching anyways might as well spend some on other coins that doesn't mean I'm gonna just throw them away though thanks for all the input let you guys know if I get them or not maybe pictures to come

BTW - if those 1909's happen to have an S on the back...go ahead and give him the 18 dimes. ;)

well I am gonna pass on these I messaged the guy saying 20 bucks or silver melt he asked me if I was crazy and said to look again that there are 2 1909 pennies I replied that unless they had an S on the back it shouldn't make a "crazy" difference then I sent him this "or we can try it this way and save a lot of time...what is it you are looking for, since you clearly said make an offer hoping someone would offer more then you figured you can get for them. Buyers start low and move up. Thats what I did. If I can't get them cheap enough I would get them. I don't collect them for a set yet, but might in the future. I have about every other collection of coin but IHC's. I have 2 that I've found so far. It's a ton easier for everyone when you put a price tag on something on craigslist, unless it's in the free or curb alert section." The guy replied 50 bucks he probably would have denied my 18 dime offer to begin with haha If I can make myself a deal I do am I being a jerk or wrong. I didn't need them yet but I might want them in the future do you guys agree with me or should I take a different approach to dealing with buying coins

With out seeing them I would not spend more than $10.00
If they were all problem free coins I might go $20.00.
One thing I see is you are talking about maybe doing a set of these in the future. I see there are a lot of duplicates with this deal.
I would bet you could post on here, that you wanted to buy 10 different dates, good or better and get them for $15 or less.
If it does not look like a good deal .. and it is not a coin you really need ... Walk away and wait for a good deal.

Depends on the condition, ask to see pics. 1909's are slightly better dates even without an S, often around $5.

The seller's asking price sounds like full retail. An offer of $30-35 for decent VG coins, if accurate as described, sounds fair to this oldtimer. The 1909's are somewhat scarcer, but the values were inflated in 2009 due to telemarketing buyers who sought to hype that 100 year anniversary issue; this, along with the 1909 Lincolns. The 1909's now seem to be sliding back in value ... S-mints aside, that is!
