I am starting my first set and I have no experience with either book. My set is going to be from VF to AU condition and toned SLQ's. I am looking for Pros and Cons for both books.

Thanks in Advanced. I will post my first coin to start my set later tonight!

I use Dansco. I like the durability & the fact that I can both side of the coins. I haven't had any problems w/ toning. But, even if some do tone I'll be fine w/ it. Everyone has their own preference. Some like air tights & 2x2's. Other will drop by w/ opinions, but, the final decision is up to you.

I think they are both nice albums, although Whitman has fallen a small amount in quality recently. They will both be nice sets, I know it sounds childish, but I think it falls down to if you want a blue background or a tan one. I would look at both members albums and decide what background suits your coins best. I have both, and I am sure carl will jump in here anytime and want you to buy some whitman's!

I currently have coins in both Whitman and Dansco folders. My next album and all future albums will be Dansco. I'd say go with Dansco so you can see both sides of the coins (since you are wanting a collection of toned SLQ's). It is also easier to put the coins into a Dansco folder.

... I don't know why people say that seeing both sides of the coin is something unique to dansco....every album I have had has been like that.

Vote for Dansco here. Although I think the majority of the forum prefers danscos (you will have your Whitman supporters too). Both are good, I just prefer the look and style of the Dansco albums and they offer tons of choices and options. They are easily available via numerous facilities and you can find very good prices for them online.

I just switched a lot of my things over from old whitman albums to Dansco. I actually have a lot of pennies tone in the old whitman album.

In general, my collection is circulate coins, and I had always used Whitman folders. I bought a couple of Whitman albums to try them out. But my recent order was for Dansco albums, because the Whitman albums seem to include proofs that I don't care to collect.

I also like Dansco.

The brown covers look like leather to me and that adds a classy touch.

Because Whitman makes the most popular folder, as well as albums. People are often confused when they read "Whitman" alone. In the context of this thread, they are Whitman albums, not Whitman folders.

For the record, Dansco makes folders as well. However, they are not as popular or well-known as the Whitman folder.

I use Dansco albums, but I have no issues with the Whitman albums. Dansco is what I was introduced to first, so I stuck with them.

My hat's in the Dansco ring as well. Additionally, you can purchase the sleeve for the album and have even more protection for your coins... That's my story Your Honor.
