Hi, can someone point me to where I can see some samples of those Jailhouse effects coins as well as Feeder Finger Damage coins please? I want to see what various samples look like. Especially those with effects right around the end of LIBERTY close to Abes neck and back. Thanks! Edited by Dottir 03/02/2011 12:16 am

They look like one or more straight parallel lines on the coin that appears to be going behind the devices. They can be in any direction in any area.
I'll see if I can find a pic or two. If not, coop and others will come through.

I only found a pic of one gouge, but it's a nice one. Sometimes you'll see two or more gouges across the face of the die. Sometimes they're short, sometimes not.

I think this is what you meant by "jailhouse". The prison cent clash.: This is a coin that I have that was labeled Feeder Finger Damage by regulars on this awesome forum. I hope these help with what you are looking for.

If you're talking about a prisoner cent, that's caused by a really nice die clash where the memorial looks to have Abe behind bars. Check out how heavily they polished the dies trying to get rid of it.

Oh wow, this is too funny. It's the "prisoner" ones I was trying to think of. Been thinking too much of the problem neighbors who've been hauled off to jail sometimes I guess So "prisoner cents" it correct, "jailhouse" wrong. Oopsie sorry folks! Thanks a lot for posting the images Scooby and Cladhunter! Exactly the kinds of images I was hoping to find. I have a 1970 D that has quite a bit of damage on it, but also has some interesting bits to it, similar to those prisoner cents and that Feeder Finger Damage one mentioned. I'm trying to figure out what I have on this coin. Its too bad I'm not able to really catch the clashes properly to see them clearly when I scan the coin. I've played lots with many MANY scans at variations of brightness and contrast and just can't catch this stuff right, Nor the lettering/numbers as theres something up with the words and date too. Not sure if its DD, MD, damage or a combination of all three. Because of the clash marks I'm thinking theres more going on with the devices than damage, but date and almost all letters of words are mushy and weird and I think indicated MD or DD. I'll play some more because I really do want to post images. I realize damaged coins aren't collectible, but this might be a good one for discussion and learning I thought.

Try taking pics & angle the camera or coin under light. Scans don't really help much. JMO.

Here is where to look for clash affects. They will be in the fields as an out line of the opposite die outlines of the devices. deeper devices are not affected during the clashes. Just the areas of the field and the outlines of the devices. Hope this helps?

Chris, thanks. I don't have anything except the scanner to work with for images and can't see that changing any time soon though so will have to make do. Meanwhile, my loupe should arrive by next week and I'm hoping to see better details to at least describe them better.
Coop, thanks a lot for that overlay. Thats a nice big image for reference. As ever, love your helpful photos that you post for us!
