Today, a CCF member linked to an album of fakes, many in (fake) PCGS slabs.
Among those coins was the fake 1946 Penny, pictured below. Would it fool many collectors?

The problem with these is many of them would fool people. I would throw up a red flag because of the font. If I wasn't previously aware of it being a fake, would I have seen it?

Yes, that's a downside to slabbed fakes--you can't weight the coin or scrutinize details as closely.
I'm hardly an expert on this series, but immediately I thought the color didn't match the "MS64 BN" grade.
The surfaces also look modern, and not like pennies from this period--what else is wrong?

The date screams out to me.... Very poor spacing.

(edit) And both "A"'s in Australia are the wrong size.

JMerrick,
You're right about that date--and the legends on both sides are off.
There are many inconsistencies, such as the spacing on REX.

I'm a bit thick. Are these fake coins in fake holders or fake coins in genuine(recycled) holders? (or worse yet are they fakes that the graders were duped by).
Can the holders be undetectably reused after cracking out a coin?
Can the holders be faked (especially the hologram) without detection?
Considering that if the coin was genuine it would be up near 10 grand then I would hate to get ripped off buying it.

Sorry...I assumed it would be clear that PCGS didn't slab this coin.
It's a fake coin in a fake slab.

searched completed listings on a well-known auction site.
Several dozen have sold recently. A quick look at the pics suggests none were better than VF+. All sold for well under $100: mostly in the range $40~$60.

A couple of nice UNC 46 pennies sold 2-3 years back for 7 and 8 thousand at Nobles here in Sydney(so with the buyers premium there wouldn't be much change out of 10 thousand).

The first thing that jumped out at me is the date, the 19 is stronger than the 46.
The 19 is weak on real 46's.
Rest in Peace

About the same as my Ferrari would be worth if it wasn't a Chevy.

Now I am concerned this is really annoying. I am watching some at the moment but really blurry shots make me sceptical.

What should I try to look out for with the holders, I know the holder would have fooled me but the date wouldn't have. Image quality is good but the ones I am watching are blurry shots. I was going on them being graded by PCGS now I am not so sure.
