I have to go with struck through error, possibly a splinter of wood. The underlying surface seems too smooth for a delamination of that size and I do not see any graining typically associated with larger delaminations. It is a beautiful red coin, too bad the mark is right on Lincoln's face

I thought struck-through...but you can see the outline of Abe's features in that gouge. I thought with a struck-through it would be smooth or just take the shape of the object that got stuck in there.

There's a wheat poking out of the bottom of Abe's bust on the obverse. pretty distinct, strong outline and grooves following the length of it.

Hoosier how do you find these haha, this reminds me of the 81' that you posted a little bit ago. Do you still have that one btw?

This is definitely a struck through, for the reasons biokemist explains.

Does someone have another example of a struck-through on Abe's face/head. I can see Abe's outline of his mouth in the pic. Wouldn't a struck-through be smooth or at least the shape of the surface of the object that was stuck in/on the die?
