Just did an edit with some re-seized photos. It's been fun chasing after the origins of this token.
While there in town, before swinging by the hacienda, I did stop by the museum and the curator was not avaialble. The man at the front desk didn't recognize the token's symbol and I didn't have time to poke around. If/when I got back, I'll try and look for the coins that are there on display. Maybe even try to dig through some records if they are available.

Frazzle, I think you are dead-on. I have seen some that say "redeemable for a busshel of corn" and that type of thing.
Anyone a photoshop expert? I could use a hand clearing up the images in the arches...maybe the symbol is there, I just can't see it.

vermontensium, thanks! It's been fun and I'm always glad to share a good adventure...wish I had more mystery pieces like this. It'd be a nice way to do some digging...anyone have a mystery piece from France? Panama? Central America?
Anyone, know someone that is a serious collector of these tokens or historically significant pieces? It's getting about time to part with this little fella.

D, you are dead-on. I went by to see what my 'source' had for me and he wasn't there...it's a shame I didn't have a few days to hang around to see if/when he'd show up...alas, I may just have to go elsewhere. :(
Suggestions? Anyone?

Real cool story. I see a rabbit and Lopez as well but I would never know otherwise what it was. Could also be a Burro? Hope it is a rare coin for you! I like it.

Well folks the saga has taken a turn for the better.
Went to the bi-anual coin show in Mexico City and found a guy that specializes in tokens. He said that there are thousands of tokens and that maybe half of them are cataloged, nothing new there. He asked if I was selling and I said "not really," just want to find out more about the origins of the token...that I had been offered a certain ammount and that just didn't motivate me. He said he'd give me a bit more than that. I thanked him and we parted on good terms.
Then, after he had packed up his display and was walking out of the show, he stopped me and made another offer. This time about double what he initially offered. After a little discussion, he admitted that SOMEONE somewhere had emailed him a photo of this token...humm...well, regardless, I think it's worth much more than what we settled on, but I'll leave that up to him.
Well, that was fun! Now...I did see some other neat mystery coins at the show, but nothing that really peaked my interest. We'll just have to see what comes up next!
PS. Some photos from the coin show to follow.

Hee-hee! Hang in there - make him come to YOU! Maybe you can swing a mutually-satisfying trade?
