I was thinking of getting one of these loupes.
Heard pretty good things about it for the price.
Anyone own one ? Know where to get the best buy on one ?
Thanks.

Never heard of that one. I use whatever I can find at the flea markets. One dealer had about 20 different types and each for one dollar. Works for me.

I have one and like it. I don't remember the specific vendor but I bought it off Amazon.com 3 or 4 years ago. I think it was around $25.

Hi, Thanks

I found one online for less than $30.00 shipped
so I ordered it. Was the best price I could find anywhere.
When I researched the loupe statements mentioned that the price
on this loupe has been going up in the past year or so.
Carl, not sure how long you have been using a loupe but after years
of using cheap ones they can screw up your eyes. This one is fairly inexpensive considering the quality of both the lenses and housing.
Those 5 or 10 dollar ones really are bad.
Rest in Peace

look for bausch + lomb and hastings triplet, 10x. not real cheap (tho one of the best mags I ever had was a $7 China jobbie), but good quality optics.

I have a 10X triple element cloth examination glass, with a 30mm focal length. It has a a marked scale at the focal length, so the number of woven rows of warp and weft can be counted against it. It is of Japanese origin, has a black lacquered brass frame and is about 80 years old. There is no colour aberration astigmatism or distortion to be seen.

You can use it at 30mm from your eye, or at reading distance to look at the material (or coin) to be examined. I also take it with me to the doctor's so he can examine any suspect moles for possible cancer.

The doctor reckons that the instrument is exactly the right tool for macroscopic skin examination!

Came in today. I like it. A little easier to hold than a hastings triplet and about the same clarity/focus etc. Looks pretty well made
and I also like the powder coat finish and thumb ears on the lense holder. Shows the whole surface of a one cent coin with no fade.
A little more touchy on the focus (in and out) but the power is definately much more than other loupes marked 10X. For the price I would say the best loupe around. Was fun trying to read the pamphlet
that came with it. All in russian. From Belarus with love :)
