Was going through numerous half dollars that I had accumulated over the years. I noticed on this coin the initials fg are missing under the eagles leg. My question is, is this a result of a Grease Filled Die. Near the eagles leg you can see what appears to be 2 lumps if that makes any sense. Is it worth keeping or not. Thanks for any info

The G of FG shows on your coin. This is a relatively common occurrence throughout the Kennedy series. Grease is known to have blocked the detail from fully striking, but more commonly, it's a result of the initials being polished off. On a die, the design is incuse, so the FG area is one of the higher points on the die and is subject to loss of detail when the die is polished, or buffed to remove clashes or other damage.

Years back, the No FG varieties were publicized and promoted. I've seen some of them bring premiums in the $10 range, ebay is the ultimate decider of fair market value.

NO FG varieties are hype other than the 1982 P No FG where the FG was completely removed from the die.

Most are the result of Die Deterioration, or the coin having been Struck Through Grease.

Out of every box of halves I search, I find 20 coins with initials missing and most are coins struck by worn dies. They are common.

Thanks,
Bill
