We definitely want to listen to our everyday collectors! Re distribution of these five new circ coins, they will all be offered at various coin exchanges throughout the country (locations TBD as they are released). And since it is tricky being everywhere at once, we will be offering online coin exchanges for every coin. These will always be announced to the public. And yes, the banks will also be distributing the coins so there is the option to wait and find them in your change. Hope this helps and thanks for all the warm welcomes!

Would love to change our avatar to be something more current. Anyone know how to do that? The options when we registered were slim...

Regarding the quality of our 2011 uncirculated coin set, we have heard people's concerns and we are listening.

Royal Canadian Mint, can you answer this question and I know this is out there in left field.... Is the 2006P Non Magnetic penny a mint error or was it caused by a insider at the mint?

From a Canadian coin enthusiast in the States. Its great to have an RCM rep here - Wow! Who would've thought? BTW - loved the recent 2011/1911 proof dollars!

Great question darryldarryl, and here's the reality. For years now, regulations allow the Mint to produce multi-ply plated one-cent coins made with either a zinc or a steel core. As zinc is non-ferrous it's no error that the coin is not attracted to a magnet. Hope this answers your question!

Thanks Earle42! We've got a lot of fans in the US and around the globe...so thanks for being one of the ones we can engage with here on coincommunity.com. Re our recent 2011/1911 proof dollars, we think they're world-class as well. Happy collecting!

Royal Canadian Mint,
No offence, but it is kind of wierd to see you on the site and to see you posting at all hours of the day. How do we know you are for real and not just a well-informed prankster?

That's a fair comment Smallcentguy. We've actually contacted coincommunity.com to determine how we can establish an "official status" or something to that effect with the mods. Waiting to hear back from them so that people like you can be assured we are the Royal Canadian Mint vs a poser. We're new to this forum "thing" so please be patient as we ramp up. Thanks!

Neweden, With all due respect, lighten up. If indeed RCM is for real, I would hope we would agree that the author deserves an exception and that the posts in question are of value to many readers of the forum. The quotas are there to protect people on the forum. While some may argue we need protection from the RCM, I am not sure their number of posts is relevant.

We are for real here and we're here to answer your questions, share updates about new coin releases, set the record straight, clarify misunderstandings, etc, etc, etc. Like we said earlier, we have sent an email to the people here at coincommunity.com to find out how we can establish our authenticity. And re the online coin exchange, it is exactly that. We are not selling the coins, we are exchanging them. We're simply doing the exchange in a forum that is accessible to most Canadians. Thank you to everyone who shares our excitement at being here!

We are in the process of authenticating the account independently. I've contacted the RCM and am awaiting a reply. We are fairly certain everything is on the up and up, but we must verify through separate channels.

Quote: Regarding the quality of our 2011 uncirculated coin set, we have heard people's concerns and we are listening. Good. Note that 2011 is not over yet, even a small (e.g., 25,000) "special" run of 2011 uncirculated coins in Ottawa would be very welcome to most collectors and coin dealers. It is a real shame to have a run of higher quality coins from 1953 to 2010 (58 years, inclusive) to be halted. You will recall in previous years that the uncirculated sets had to be made in Winnipeg (1997, 1998, 2000) that special care was taken to provide collectors with decent coins. It was a shame that the 2011 Berlin, RCNA and ANA special coin sets (runs of 500 coins) were even from Winnipeg circulation strikes - not the ideal way to put your best foot forward...
