Lately, I've been thinking that it may be time to transfer my growing Lincoln Cent collection to a Dansco. They are currently in a H.E. Harris folder set. Im just curious as to what folder you guys use for you Lincoln cents. I've looked at the Dansco 7100 and I'm really leaning toward it. Is this the best one for the money or is there a better one out there that I should consider?

Great question. I'm thinking of doing the same with mine and haven't decided what to move them to. Looking forward to the replies.

I went 2x2's in a very nice binder. It's better for the coins, and works just fine for presentation.

The only thing lacking about Dansco's is that they aren't airtight. If not kept in the right conditions it can get ugly, just like any other album. But other than that, they are the way to go... I like seeing both sides, makes it more interesting . I think the folder type tones a bit too much for my taste, but then again I have silver taste with a lincoln budget ...That's just my opinion though.

Here I go again bragging about my Whitman Classic Albums. They are really great for all coins. I mostly say this since I have well over 100 Albums and most are Whitman. Actually if you look up Coin Albums in Google you would find there are really many companies that make them, not just Dansco. Each has advantages and disadvantages as far as what you want them for. On this forum you'll usually hear Dansco since that appears to be what most here use. Some prefer Intercept Shield brand and even some use Littleton. Actually Harris now owns Whitman so a Whitman is actually a Harris which may be why so many don't like them. Prior to purchasing an Album, you may want to check them out if you could find a coin store or coin show where many are on display. You'll usually hear people say they like Dansco since they appear to look like an expesive book but that makes little difference if you don't let people see them. Quote: I've looked at the Dansco 7100 and I'm really leaning toward it. Is this the best one for the money or is there a better one out there that I should consider? Kind of important to many. I've found that Intercept Shield is far more expensive than most others followed closely by Dansco. Whitman is about 1/4 less in most areas. Many of the other brands are even less. Usually depends on the seller and the area they serve. Might want to do a comparison on that Wizard coin supply web site. Let us know which you choose and why.

I have all types being used. I use Dansco (and one nice Whitman album Carl !).. ...as well as the "slip cover" bonus option to reduce airflow---which is a good idea with Proof and Silver Proof coins....or just preservation of the Classics to slow the degradation. I use " folders" too..... mainly to just keep "circulated" cheaper coins in. Ones easily found in pocket change. (Memorials, Jeffersons, etc.) And I use a big 3 ring binder.... I put the coin, such as a Morgan or Shield nickel, in a 2x2. This then, goes into the plastic mylar pages made to fit the 2x2's. In this, basically are kept my "extra" Morgans, Peace, IHC's, all Barbers, Buffalo's, etc., etc., .......kind of a "duplicate" storage holder. I also use " coin tubes" for many duplicates or just BU examples. And/or "date tubes", to have rolls of whatever denomination I want. Airtight plastic containers & Ziplock freezer baggies (for Wheaties) And I have 3 large Safety Deposit boxes at the bank, which is located in the center of the bank, and is "climate controlled". And I employ some silica gel packs here and there too. So, I use all kinds of things really. Costly, higher end coins should have their "storage space" chosen quite carefully.....but not less important, are the ol' Coppers and such too ! ..... You don't want ANYTHING you have to tarnish grow nasty.....so, all the lines of defense that you can think of, is advisable.

I did the same. Buy 2x2s and a binder, and with the money saved buy a coin while your at it.

I just transferred my Lincolns from Blue Whitmans to a Dansco this past week after 27 years in the Whitmans. I like the rich look of the Dansco and the fact I can see both sides of the coin. Makes it easier to see which years could use an upgrade.

Add me to the Dansco column (again). The 7100 is a good choice. If you also want to collect the 1975-to-date San Francisco proof cents, you will want to get the 8100. Anything is better than the folders. I do see the advantages of using 2x2's and binders, but the Dansco albums satisfy my needs.

Mine are all just from circulation, so are in Whitman folders, but if I had BU or more expensive coins, I would go either with Airtites or Intercept Shield (More expensive, but neutralizes the air around the coins).

Quote: I have the "US Mint" album for my Lincolns...I HATE IT! I've got one of those too.... But I also have the new Lincoln Dansco with Proofs. Someday soon.....I'm going to transfer my "older" Wheats from the U.S. Mint album, over to the Dansco. My Dansco is complete from the '60's onward basically, but I only wanted the best grades I could afford in this Dancso, so I didn't do that "transfer" with the other album. I realized the cost of buying the nice grades.....so time and money have prevented me from doing "what I'd LIKE to do" here. It just pains me at the thought of putting some crusty ole' barely discernable Wheats into my beautiful Dansco with Proofs album ! .... But.......I don't see myself parting with any money anytime soon to do it the way I want to.......so.

Note that is one of the few on the market that is made in China. Quote: Mine are all just from circulation, so are in Whitman folders, but if I had BU or more expensive coins Regardless of if only from circulation, those folders could do more damage than people think. If you've seen coins in change with darkened areas on the reverse, most likely they came from a Folder. If you look at the rear of those slots, you would see they are rather on the shinny side. That is glue left over from mass production of those Folders. Usually kids like that since for well worn coins that may fall out, they just spit on the rear of the coin, place in the slot, the now moistened glue holds the coins in place. Most people push those coins into the slots with bare thumbs and that oo leaves oils and acids on the coins. Also, nothing at all to protect the coins obverse from more air, moisture, spit, sneezeing, coughing and just stuff in the air. Folders are really for amateurs and kids and many times for long term storage, the coins are cmpletely ruined.
