I have a black nickel that is in excellent condition. It dont look like it was cleaned in anyway and it dont look like any kind of substance on the coin. Is there any foreign planchet examples of black nickels? I found this about 4 yrs ago and put it aside for keepsake of a possible error. I'm not even saying what I have is even an error I just want to see some examples of foreign planchets before I even make any kind of assumption.

Black beauties appear dark in color, but have a luster to them. Think of dark gun-metal gray. There are particular years that they are more common. What year is yours, and is there are luster to it?

I know this coin is identical to the black beauty. A coin can look the same but until its actually professionally graded by ANACS or another company youll never know. So even if the coins is the same color and all until its actually labeled (Improper Alloy Mix) then you know you have the real thing. Even though its the same color I'm still not getting my hopes up until I actually come up with the money to send it to get graded.

I guess the reason I say this is because foreign planchets I personally believe are the trickiest coins out there. Theres so much you can do to a coin to make it look like an improper alloy mix.
Rest in Peace

Cud Wild, I don't understand. I don't think black beauty's have anything to do with the alloy mix. I have heard several possible causes for this but none of them involved the alloy.

I didnt know that. What does (imporperly annealed planchet) mean? I just looked a black beauty coin up and ANACS labeled it that.

If you "know this coin is identical to black beauty" then why do you bother asking anything about it here?

I frankly see a nickel...that's all.

It's too hard to make any conclusions from the pics you provided, as you said, the color is way off and they are a little fuzzy. I do find it odd that you "know" it's a black beauty, but aren't positive what a black beauty is. As you even said, many things can be done to a coin to alter its appearance. In order to identify a coin, you need to know what to look for. I would suggest posting larger pictures under proper lighting so we can offer our opinions.

What happened was I never heard of black beauty till today. I compared my nickel to another black beauty coin and it was identical as the one selling on HSN that was professinally graded. Now the real conclusion would be from ANACS when they tell me for sure what I have or not.
