I came across this while searching some rolls today and cannot find any mention of this variety anywhere. Can anyone help point me in the right direction?

The D in the photo although a bit low is within normal tolerances for Mint Mark location on the Kennedy half dollar coins.

welcome aboard. hope you will stick around and join in this forum more. to start with; is the 'dropped 'D' raised above the surface of the coin ? or is it below the surface of the coin? if indeed it is below(incused)read ,sunk in ,below the surface of the coin ,you might have what is often referred to as: struck through dropped letter. strike throughs come in a large mixed bag, and are worth more than face value.indeed can be worth alot more than face value.get familar with the site including the forum here and you will often that by searching/looking at previous posts answers or discussions of similar topics will give you further information. sorry 'bout run on sentence. anyways again welcome aboard.and as always happy hunting.

Thank you both. It seems very different from every other one I have seen from that year, I am a bit surprised that it is within the acceptable limit. It is not incused unfortunately.

Hopefully I'll be sticking around for awhile :)

One thing to remember is that starting in 1990 all mintmarks were applied to all the master dies. Before that, you will see a variance in the position of the mintmark, thus your lower D is an excepted placement, as stated above, since it was applied to a working die.
