So I'm working on cataloging my Grandpa's collection(now mine) and I'm wondering if anyone here remembers what they paid for an 1883 Carson City Morgan GSA. My Grandfather wrote down on all the boxes when he received them in the mail, which were all in 1980, but not the price he paid. If anyone remembers that would be great.

-Nick

ctually that is not quite correct. The sale price in the initial offering in 1972 was $30 however by the time the sixth and final sale rolled around in 1980 the price of an 1883CC was up to $65. If your Grandfather bought his in 1980 he paid $65

Ah thanks for the info. I believe my Grandpa was trying for an 1879, but kept getting 1883s and 1884s.

Hey Jokingjoker, no black eye for you at all. You were correct and had backup info, just for the wrong sale. Most collectors today don't realize there were actually 6 GSA sales before the government was able to unload the entire stash of silver dollars that were stored in the treasury. I only know because I am older than dirt and tried to buy an 1879CC in the 4th sale in 1974 (I was 2 years out of high school and had a job and actually had money to by coins) but I only bid the minimum $300 and struck out.
