sigh....again with the ebay. Just got a 1884 Morgan dollar in the mail this morning which was clearly fake. The coin was thinner, lighter and the numbers and letters were all fatter and at times completely different from the authentic. the funniest part was the very pointy chin on the fake, clearly a cast coin. Just writing this a reminder to especially new collectors to watch out. in my case, I will get a full refund but was lucky that I had other Morgans to compare this one to and that I was even concerned in the first place.

Not quite sure if she's knowingly dumping fakes or not. The date on that one is a dead giveaway. At best, she's incompetent, check out this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...330540448729Pictured: 1889 Morgan Title: Morgan silver dollar 1885 MS+ Nice! PL mirrored fields Description: 1887 Morgan SUPER Silver dollar my grade is MS66+ ---see pix --- mirrored fields FB: Nice folks, Good Stuff, GREAT PRICES!! HUH? My guess? Lots of stupid buyers on ebay, probably shipping nothing but fakes, because you sure can't depend on pix.

I looked over some of their completed listings and they are looked good, based on my limited knowledge that is as well as how I was able to tell mine was fake(it was telling even from the ebay photo of the obverse). I don't know if it is intentional. My initial email to the buyer explaining the situation was met with a very quick and curt "happy to accept a return, thanks". NO concern over the authenticity of their coins at all, which is a bit of a red flag. An yeah I love they made their OWN grade MS66+(?) My guess is most people are buying them for their alleged silver content. It seems to be aluminum to me given the lightness, but I could be dead worng. All I know is it is a Fakerino!

Bud, I don't collect Morgan dollars - I don't even LOOK at Morgan dollars more than a couple of times a year...and I can easily tell that's a fake. Word to the wise...don't buy online unless you really know what you're doing, and you can learn that through going to coin shops, coin shows, and buying books to read. That's where your $30 should be going.

Thanks for the tips. I'm learning, albeit the hard way. I'll get there.

I have my doubts about a raw 1884 O that is listed by the same seller.
It doesn't look right where the designs meld in to the surface of the coin.
Anyway..

We'll I see there is No Returns Accepted. I would take this up with ebay's Buyer Protection Plan. I'd love to find anything from the 1880's in MS-anything for 30 bucks lol. ebay is full of fakes though there are some good reputable folks on there as well.

I buy and sell on the bay consistently and I find that as long as you use common sense and do a little background on the seller..gauge the level of Professionalism and if its a coin you don't know much about then do your homework.. I had this happen to me when I bid quickly to win some gold max a million coins from a unknown seller in Mexico..yeah they showed up and were plated and you could bend then with your fingers and they were half the size of a US dime so shame on me for being a dope..lol.. out of my 8yrs this happened one time and I have yet to make another bad purchase and I also have been selling and by simply being honest, listing every little nick or scratch and having at least 1024px768p clear pictures (never buy or sell with stock pics always item as shown!) I have held my 100% 5* FB... I'm all for ebay coins just keep you mind about you.. Good luck on your next coin!
