You old salts and others that are members of NGC is it worth the money? and if so what membership would you recommend to a active collector. What are the coupons they give out from time to time? I would like to know what take is on membership. Thanks

I am a member if NGC and PCGS. I have used my grading voucher for NGC but have yet to use the one for PCGS yet. I think it is worth it but I really think I will downgrade my membership next year because mostly all I ever use is them to add the variety to the label and I only have to pay for reholder plus the variety fee's so the voucher is pretty much thrown away because I am giving them a grading fee and also paying for attribution when I could just pay attribution fee plus 10 bucks for getting the coin attributed on the label, so I am just getting 40 bucks worth of service (or 50 for NGC because they give you a five coin voucher instead of 4 like PCGS)for my membership fee where if I just got them graded it would be 100.00 or so value

It can be worth it if you have a lot of coins to send in. I joined NGC and used the certificate, but ended up paying a fair amount for shipping and insurance fees, so don't think it's free with the certificate. Also, if you don't have a fair amount of coins you want graded, it's not worth it. If you have less than 5, you need to use early bird which is $30/coin plus shipping and insurance. I don't think I am going to renew my membership, but perhaps join the ANA to get direct submission privileges.

I joined and got the $109 membership which allows five $30 Early Bird submissions. I have about ten coins that I want to have slabbed so I think it will work out fine for me. I will probably drop out after one year and rejoin as needed as my collection expands. I almost got the $39 membership and noticed the free submissions deal just.before I pulled the trigger.

If you get the correct membership the money you pay for membership is given back to you in a voucher for free gradings so its actually you just pay shipping both ways and you get your money back with the voucher, so in my opinion its worth it. Of course they aren't going to give you free shipping with the membership because that isn't on them, thats what they have to pay the post office. I still think even if you have 5 coins needed grading its worth it. Even if you are an ANA member you get the membership free (or at least used to, not sure if this is still true) but you would still have to pay the shipping both ways and when you sign up for membership for their service its just the same as it would be if you were an ANA member, because you get your money back for the package with the voucher

Thanks

it is according to the value of the coins how much you pay for insurance and registered mail

I sent in a foreign coin to NGC and it came back in a body bag. Returned it to the MAJOR dealer and he submitted it. The same coin came back slabbed, and I bought it (again).
Go through a dealer.
Have the dealer use PCGS for USA coins.

what was the reason for the bodybag from NGC when you submitted it?

Questionable authenticity. The legal way of saying it was fake.

NGC has improved their free submissions. For $109 you get five Early Bird submissions and two free Modern Tier submissions (1970 and newer) and they include conservation services on those two coins. I think it's a great deal for the price.

Junior, thanks for the info on their new submissions. I have several I need to get graded so I may have to consider this.
