I've never had anything graded before, so I am new at this. There's an inherited 1909 S VDB I want to have authenticated. I don't care so much about the accuracy of grading or resale value, as this will never be sold except possibly among family. That's the agreement we all made, it stays in the family period.
We just want to make sure it is genuine and have it in a nice holder so it stays in good shape. Assigning a grade is nice, but secondary.
So with that said, I think my best bet is ANACS, right? I believe PCGS and NGC require you to be a member, and I'm just not sure that's worth it for me at this time... and I'm not sure I'd trust any of the other services, but am open to advice...
If you can post good pics of the mintmark position in relation to the date, that would help eliminate an obvious fake as there are only four possible mintmark locations. If it passes that test, then ANACS would probably be your least expensive option for certification. If you are an ANA member, you already have direct submission privileges to NGC.
I am 99% certain it is genuine but just wanted that extra assurance for estate purposes. I looked at the pcgs website with mintmarks, and it is definitively position #4... I'll try to post pics soon, probably on a different thread.
