I'm an accountant working for a BIG 4 firm and have been contemplating whether I should try for a PT teller job.

There are always a lot of bank teller stories. I wonder why we never hear about or from anyone with a Laundromat or auto cleaners? Or even someone that works or owns one of those automated car washes that take coins. If you think about it there are many types of places that deal with a large amount of coins and some even more so than a bank.
If you live in a state that has toll roads, those too take piles and piles of coins all day long. So what happens to all those coins?

I used to be a teller, it was amazing what some people would occasionally turn in. An older gentleman deposited a $1000 bill and 2 $500 bills once. I did my best to scrounge up the cash for them until my manager informed me that our district manager took presidence and she was allowing him first dibs... Ohhhhh how I hated when they did that.

My wife worked at a bank a few years ago and an older lady, in her early 80's came in with, get this, 10 $1000 bills. apparently she had more as something was said about her pulling these from her mattress. Man, I wish I could have been there as they would be worth a LOT more than face.

The BofA branch manager I know said tellers make $11/hr. I am sure if you work for a Big 4 firm you make a lot more than that. So, let me ask you this, what if you scored $20 in silver while working one day? Was it worth it?

PT = Part Time. He does not intend to quit his day job. At least I hope not.

Time is also enjoyment. If he enjoyed working for $11 an hour, scoring the occasional find, what would it really matter to you or me? Just saying.

First of all, I am highly doubtful any bank would higher a white-collar professional just to work on a Sat. If you have a full-time job the banks are closed by the time you get off of work. So, that only leaves Sat. Who wants to waste their Saturday dealing with the public to possible score a few $12 coins? Just go buy them! Just saying...

I agree with Jbuck, I have two jobs I am a often laid off construction worker that makes very good money when I am working. I also am a part time charity poker dealer at a local bar and make 40 to 50 bucks per shift (usually 6 or 7 at night till 1 or 2 am) but I wouldn't want to quit the dealing job because I love the people that work there, I love the game of poker, and I like interacting with the players they money is just a bonus.

I have to disagree. A friend of mine got caught up in the credit crunch. He has a well paid day job, but bonuses and raises have been frozen. He now works part time at Lowe's in the evenings. They had no problem hiring a thirty-something with a master's degree to work in the garden center.

I hope you realize that I am not saying that you should do this! I just think that Jamessmith77 has every right to do it if he desires to do so.

I agree he has every right to do what he pleases! However, banks close at 6, at the latest as far as know. Lowes, closes at 9 or 10.

Anyway, I agree it would be cool to be the teller that receives silver coins. No doubt! However, I was just pointing out that for the few silver coins you might get it's not worth the hassle! Just go buy the coins.
