I am not sure. I thought I read about this guy selling this coin here on CCF. He takes great pride in providing very good photos of his coins and his coins are also top notch. I am no expert on LWC's but I have heard about this guy before.

For claiming they are a professional coin photographer, you would think they would have taken a close up of the mintmark and date.
Without a better pic, I have no comments on it.

man , I dunno
I have researched fake mint marked 09-s vdb's
One ref points to a " sunken field of a circle shape around the mint mark " If you look close the coin appears to have that circular sunken look around the mint mark.
But I read alot of the Fakes were period pieces made back in the 50's and sold to the 50's boom generation coin collectors and are eazy to spot by anyone with mint mark knowledge
Then I read the modern 09's vdb fakes are so good they can fool alot of people

I agree that a better picture of the mint mark would help, but this coin looks real to me from the pictures. The B in VDB appears to have the correct slant and the mint mark looks like Die #4: http://www.pcgs.com/articles/articl...d=313&type=1The coin does appear to have some evidence of hairline scratches from a wipe. Proceed with caution however...

I am going to call this genuine lacking any evidence otherwise ... appears to me to be the real deal.
That said ... there is no way I would purchase this coin raw on e-pray regardless of the price ... would need to see it live and in hand.

The S is not sunken in enough for me. With that said it needs to be in hand. Within 7 days I could figure it out. Nice coin other wise.

I just dont see why the guy does not get it slabbed ? MY opinion is something might be wrong such as cleaning , toning , mintmark ... something he suspects might get it sent back and not be able to be slabbed or might have already had it sent back unslabable
Its not a 10-100 dollar coin ... This is a several thousand dollar coin worth the few bucks to have prof graded and authencated

I don't care who this seller is, or how long he has been selling 1909-S VDB's, if it's not authenticated by either PCGS,NGC,ANACS, AVOID! That goes for the 1916-D 10C, 1916 SLQ, 1901-S Barber 25C, etc.

also , this coin sellers claim to be a prof photographer. Meaning he knows how to use lense filters , contrast adjustments, color saturation , corrective lighting , and other various ways to take pics and show what you want someone to see and hide what your dont want them to see. If it was slabbed and graded , by a reputable TPG then there you have it no guessing at prof pictures. Think of it this way , have you ever SEEN A UGLY PERSON GO TO A PHOTOGRAPHER AND THE PICS COME BACK LOOKING LIKE THE PERSON IS A MODEL ? well the same techniques can be done with pictures of anything including coins

I think it's not slabbed because it has evidence of cleaning and so would only end up in a Genuine slab...why end the "mystery" with a problem slab...

Looks genuine to me.With that return policy I wouldn't hesitate to bid if I needed the coin. The good part about buying an unslabbed coin is that you can get good deals once you learn to trust your own judgement.
