All of these are G4 or less (if there is such a thing in IHC grading) but have always had an interest in them and so finally got around to branching out from the Morgans. The first 6 years of issue seemed a logical place to start. This little feller was around when the Comstock Lode was discovered. And this guy was there when Lincoln was elected to the Presidency. This one saw the start of the Civil War. This one was around to see the launching of the first US ironclad warship, Monitor. This big boy went through the battle of Gettysburg. This feller was there when Nevada became a state. Lotsa history there. Guess that's one of the big attractions to collecting coins. Hope you enjoy it too. Edited by Sidekick-CA 03/26/2011 7:47 pm

Nice coins. Nice photos. You take them? I like the history involved too! How many people do you think swallowed those?

Oh, you're going to love collecting these, I can tell that by the way you're describing them!
We have a modest hoard of our own, and ours in those years are in the same shape yours are in. These are very rewarding, both emotionally and intellectually, as you already seem to have figured out. Good luck in building your collection!

Nice! I got my first one a few days ago as well. It's a 1903. I got it as a gift but I'll be picking up the rest starting from the earliest date. It's exciting to think about the history behind them so thanks for adding some facts to the pictures.

Awesome! Its awesome how much history can be associated with these coins, or at least with the year they were minted..lol

Very nice and I think a couple go G6 or so anyway. I love IHC's, got about 8 left to complete.

Nice Coins. Especially like the way you tied in the dates to important moments in history. That is one of the reasons I switch my pocket pieces around often. Often, the non collector will not care too much about an "old coin" but will appreciate the history behind it when you tell them what was going on around the time it was minted and started circulating.

Most of them could pass for G-6/VG-8 in my opinion. Nice coins!

The History is a great touch. I think if I was designing coin albums I would like to see history takes and timeline as part of the album.

Glad you all seemed to enjoy the history connections as much as I do. Thanks for looking and for your feedback. Looking forward to adding more IHC in the future. Yes, I took the pix but I don't take credit for them. That goes to the folks over on the CCF phogography forum. Grunches of help over there from some pretty sharp photographers. I was a bit surprised some of these coins graded more than G4. Maybe I got a good price afterall. Soccerdad, that album idea might have some promise. I had been thinking alon the same lines. Might be a good project for an enterprising young soul such as yourself? Maybe some loose leaf pages that fit into an album opposite the respective coins. I can see where that might generate more interest among the youngsters. Kinda like numismaniac and his pocket pieces; a miniature piece of history.
