1882-S Morgan With Shadow Under Date

not sure if this is an error, an enhancement, a toning issue or a freaky one-coin phenomena. bought the 1882-S Morgan in raw, but pristine condition. No toning or rainbow or mirror-like aspects to coin, as far as I can tell.

but. the "1882" has a shadow under it which is in the form of an upside down "1882". it's as of the coin was struck with a super bright light shining from the top of the obverse downward, and casting a shadow on the other side of the raised features. except the only shadow is under the date, not the head.


anyone run into this one?

unfortunately, it's stashed in safe deposit box. something tells me this shadow deal is a good thing. not a flaw. not the result of numismatic misfortune or trauma. not caused by corrosives or other environmental contaminants. just a shadow in one very specific place

still do not have capability of taking good photos, but I did learn that this shadow thing is a feature picked up in several VAM variations.
