Here is another one of the high grade nickels I pulled roll searching yesterday. This one is a 1953p. It has rather high reflectivitiy so I was wondering if you folks thought it was a proof or not, and what its grade might be. Thanks!

If it were a proof, you wouldn't be asking this question. Here is an example of a business strike cent and a proof cent. They are really easy to spot which is which.

I agree .... for sure not a proof ... appears to be a lovely AU55 example.

This is a year know for weak strikes XOG ... so the weakness in the hair (obverse) and Monticello (reverse) does not hold this coin back from a solid AU grade IMHO.

Yeah the mirror surface of the proof coins (modern) really jumps out at you.

Not to be a devil's advocate or anything, but I found a proof dime several years ago in change.. If it wasn't for the S mintmark, I wouldn't have known it was a proof..

Circulation does stuff to coins..

Just sayin'

The reverse is way too weakly struck to be a proof. Not every proof will have full steps but most have at least 5.

Yes it does appear to be a circulation strike to me now as well, I put it side by side with a 1950 proof and I could easily see the difference in reflectivity.
