I returned to the coin shop today to purchase 3 more wheat rolls. (Original post https://goccf.com/t/84238)
After the first successful outing and much coercion into buying more by my fellow CCM'ers, I did.

One was just your normal grab-bag roll of random dates, etc. but the other two were.
The second roll contained nothing but 1936's and the third roll contained a 1950 D and...get this...49 more 1936's!! That brings my total up to 3 rolls of most/everything being from '36! How is this possible?

I feel like I own half of the '36's in the world now.

The 1936's are a good date to look for double dies! Check through them closely. Happy hunting!

I had a similar experience sifting through the 10 cent bin today it seemed that EVERY teens/twenties wheat was a 1920 in AG3 or G4 nothing wrong with the date 1920 but last thing I want is thirty repeats. Finally found a decent 1918 after some exhaustive searching. He's posted over in the grading area.

I don't mind picking up so many 1936's. The shop sells the coins for 3 cents apiece, or melt value. The '36 wheaties are valued at 5 cents and higher, so I am a happy as a clam.

Also today in the 10 cent bin at the shop I go to I found 7 Nazi coins from WWII. I could not believe other sifters like me had missed them!

Hey - what are you doing with those wheats? What kind of wheat collection are you building?

Cool you're into ancients - me too! =)

And yeah, I understand the frustration with multiple repeat dates when all you want is to fill the hole for each year, but keep them together. If you know anybody born in 1986, they might get a kick out of them for a gift. =) And sort them by grade - keep the ones you want and perhaps you can trade those you don't with other CC'ers for dates you don't have of comparable grade and rarity...

How is this possible?

Dealer bought them from someone with a large hoard of wheat cents who kept them rolled by date.
