Im curious how many coin authors and coin graders are on this site? I know Coppercoins is an author and Mike Diamond is president of CONECA but is there anybody else on here? Just curious is all.

That is an intersting question and now that you bring it up, I wonder how many coin authors, coin dealers, coin store owners are on this forum. Problem with this is with so many different forums here, there could be some of each on only one type of forum. Example there are those that only care about forien coins. Others are only interested in error coins. You would really have to repeat this post in all the different forums and sub forums to ever get a sort of decent answer. And them too, some may well not want to be known. Or just don't think this place is for advertising. Using Coppercoins, for example, ever notice he doesn't say things like "for more info, buy my book". Dennis Tucker, Publisher of Whitman Books, used to visit this and the PCGS forums a lot but haven't seen him here for a long time. Would by nice to know just who knows what, HUH?

Sometimes being discreet is the best though. For example would a celebrity want to be known on here no. But in a way coppercoins and Mike Diamond would be considered celebrities in the Coin World.

Well, I've written a numismatic reference book so I guess you could say I'm an author. It hasn't sold in the thousands or anything - but it's been sold a good few times. It's such an obscure topic that no-body else was going to do it and it is my main collecting field. It came about because I was trying to organise my collection in such a way that I could see what I had and what I didn't have and it was only a short step to writing the "definitive?" account of the topic. http://www.lulu.com/product/hardcov...nian/6318745I'll probably do a 3rd edition in a few years to up date things. I certainly haven't made any money out of it - Each book that is sold I get a whopping £4 - the rest is printing costs - it's full colour throughout. A few auctions houses have it and I've laised with both the British Museum and the Paris Museum on material. MAlcolm

I know of at least one former professional grader who is a senior member of the site. Not knowing if he has mentioned it himself, I will not reveal his name. Likewise, at least one very prominent VAMmer, author of an important study in the series, is a regular here.
There are others.

I really don't see why anyone that is an author of a book, magazine, articles, etc on coins would not want the world to know that. It is really sort of a nice, cheap, simple method to advertise your product and at the same time be helpfull and informative for educational purposes. Coppercoins is an example of just that. He doesn't brag about his books or web site but he does let you know about them and at the same time gives out information about coins. I really think it would be benificial to all if authors of anything on coins would let people know who they are. Why ask someome something that may or may not really know if you could ask someone that really knows?

My only claim to fame in this area would be a couple of limericks I've composed that were accepted/published on the net. Life can be both cruel and fickle. You're broke, find yourself in a pickle. "Can you spare me a dime?" "Wouldn't give you the time, Not even a Buffalo nickel." I was asked by a begging farang, "Can you spare me a 50-satang? For that's all I need To go buy, at great speed, A cold beer--a nice bottle of Chang." A farang (fa-LANG), in Thailand, is any foreigner. The baht is made up of 100 satang (sa-TANG) with only 25- and 50-satang coins in general circulation. Do they count?

Some get a little embarrassed blowing their own horn and would rather leave that to others. Also their work may be out of print so they don't want to promote something that is unavailable.

I know we have quite a few experts that everyone in the industry turns to for answers in a specific field, one I know has written a few books but not sure if the others have or not but if they would just publish the answers they have given on this site alone it could fill a few books. Again I will not name names as some of their names may be so they can be incognito on the forum where others are obvious by their nicks

One more example of what an expert could explain. Wonder how many know the difference between a poem, ryme and a limerick? I know some may not agree but I myself would always rather ask an expert, or someone that may be one, a question. Much better chance of getting an accurate answer. And with coins there are so many differences of opinions, ideas, information, etc. would be nice to have people that may really know answer or at least try.
