Hello all,

Found this forum and thought somebody here would be able to help me out. Selling off a relative's coin collection and came across a couple of Walking Liberty half dollars. One of them has a strange rim on both sides. Not sure if this means it is a mistrike or not. The coin is in the upper right of one photo and the bottom left of another. Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

to CCF. I think the pics are way to small and the pros are going to want closer shots.

It looks like post mint damage. Could you get a closer image?

This might have been the center of a piece of jewelry as well.

Believe Kefiroth has it right though.

Now...go identify that vise! :)

I agree that is was squeezed in a vice. The reason for the edges only being affected is that if you reduce the contact area, you increase the pressure. So you only put the edges of the coin in the vice.

P = F/A. Pressure equals force divided by the area.
