Hi,
I found a connecticut quarter that has what looks like reeding on the face and back of the coin aprx. 1/4 the way around the rim of the coin. It looks like it was made by a machine as the grooves are are uniform in size and have a steadily increasing gap between them as they go around the coin. Any ideas? I'll post some pics on here tomorrow.

Sounds like like a minor collar clash. The minor ones are common, especially on halves. But this is all just guessing until we see the pics.

Well, that is definitely not a collar clash. The rim of the coin has been damaged post-mint.

Wow...looks like a mini paper shredder got to it.
Sorry, no error this time. That's damage.

any ideas on what might have caused the damage? I was thinking maybe someone got really bored and took some side cutters to it...

Not to be rude or anything, but there's as many possibilities out there as you can imagine. The important thing (to me, anyway) is that the coin is damaged and is worth face value. None of the rest would matter to me.
