*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Someone posted in a selling forum asking for best price on Morgans. There is 0.77344 ounces of Silver in Morgan and Peace dollars. So today's spot price $40.95 X 0.77344 = $31.67 Melt Value for Morgans. That's crazy considering you could buy Common BUs lower than that a year ago. Everyone Upgrade while you can! I was in an antique store a couple weeks ago and the guy has a bunch of Morgans for $32. I think many were BU, but I wasn't in the market so I did ask him to remove them from the case. Next time through a may pick up a couple.

Also remember that weight is when they were minted. There are many, many pieces out these worn below VG condition that will be well underweight. Slicks in PO1 or FR2, other culls, damaged pieces, holed, etc. might be a 1/10 of an ounce or more underweight. As far as prices? $30 has to a minimum for Morgans without damage/holes.

I'd just concluded a sell w/ a fellow CCF member for 10 MS Morgan about 2 months back (with a payment plan) so he did save quite a bit for them (around 40% compare to current price). Very smart move for his part ($20/week).

I went to a coin show in Milwaukee today and the cheapest ones I saw were $36 - $38 for circulated Morgans or Peace dollars, and there were very few to find at those prices. On a related note, I was able to find some 90% "junk" silver for as low as 25x face but those were hard to find too. It's hard to believe a year ago these same pieces could be found for half of what they are today.

To buy or not to buy.......LOL. Every time I pick something up at these prices I cringe. I have been focusing on trying to upgrade some of my sets as the spot price of silver has not affected the better grade, better date coins too much. That was a heck of a jump Friday. If this continues we will see $50 silver by early July.

Two sides to this thing of rising prices.
I can sell off my junk at profit culling the collection to be able to buy some nicer Morgans.
Also - purely subjective, but I think I am seeing more quality coins coming to market noiw that might not have been offered before. The higher price is probably motivating folks to dig them out and sell the.
