Hi Everyone, took a lot of playing around to get this pic here. I hope it is ok. I am not too computer savvy. Here is my question. I was going through some Walkers and came across this one. I picked it up very cheap on ebay a few years ago and am wondering if it looks real to you folks. I don't know what to make of it. Is it possible the mintmark was added? There is a dark circle surrounding it. I would appreciate any help at all. I have a few of these and 2 have the same look and the others are more uniform (no darkness around mintmark. Thanks very much, Bob

Your WLH looks good to me...

The gunk around the mint mark accumulates on a circulated coin but doesn't get wiped off when it's rubbed, like the rest of the coin, due to the height of the mm.

Here's mine: (It looks the same as yours...)

I'm inclined to agree with Moe, if only because a 1916-P is just as desirable as a 1916-S - you wouldn't go to the effort of disfiguring one. You could doctor a "D", but they're not exactly as common as grains of sand either.

Thanks very much guys. I just came across the receipt. I paid $100 for 4 of them so they were pretty inexpensive. I am glad to hear they are ok although SuperDave makes a good point about the 16 P being in the same ballpark pricewise. Guess it would make no sense for someone to add the mintmark. I love this site. So much knowledge shared every day. Thanks again, Bob

I vote genuine.. The 16s in VF and up is a booger of a coin to find.

Looks good to me too. This level of wear would make the S look like a little blob of metal.

Yep, I agree. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
