matchbox,

I don't want to steal your thunder, but maybe you/we/me could start a new thread with posting TV show episodes that talk about or show coins.

There was the Andy Griffith Show episode where Andy tells Barney he has a rare Buffalo nickel with the buffalo facing the wrong way.

Some pretty famous people are or have been collectors. Wayne Gretzky, Nicholas Cage, James Earl Jones, Penny Marshall all appear on the list. Jerry Buss, owner of the LA Lakers, at one point owned both a 1913 Liberty nickel and an 1804 Dollar - he's a serious collector.

I remember reading a long time ago an article, in a coin magazine, entitled "Sale of the Buddy Ebson Collection - Inventory."

Yes, if he was not a collector he was an investor to be sure.
I remember he had a roll of 1909-S VDB Cents in his accumulation.

jbuck,

Do to the vast number of movies involving money we would need to seperate topics into:

Coins
paper money
Gold/silver
Bearer Bonds (Beverly Hills Cop I)

Come to think of it, most movies have some theme involving money.

This is too confusing. Never mind.

German Bearer Bonds.

By the way, we have gone from Beverly Hillbillies to Beverly Hills Cop. What's next?

Then there's also some good novels with coins in the story. "The Burglar Who Studied Spinoza" by Lawrence Block.

Anybody remember this movie:

The Anderson Tapes

If my memory serves me correctly, in one scene the crooks steal a crippled kids coin collection.

I'm delighted to see this ancient thread of mine resurrected!

Thanks jbuck for linking to the other threads. I read those a long time ago and just re-read them again.

There was also the scene in the film "In Cold Blood" where one of the killers chased after the victim's silver dollar while it was rolling across the floor.

This accounts for 14 of the 24 coins struck. Where are the rest of them? Only two show signs of having circulated and it is clear that the others were held as special pieces. So where are the other 10 special pieces?

1. In the bottom of a wishing well somewhere
2. In one of the millions of games at those places for kids
3. In some kids coin Folder
4. On a charm bracelet with a hole drilled in it to hang
5. Melted down for the Silver
6. In a jar in a farm house somewhere waiting for rainy day

I still remember the scene in "Yanks" where the American soldier and the British lady were in an American officer's club.
There was a slot machine.
The payout: Roosevelt dimes among the Mercurys. In 1940s England?
Where is continuity and authenticity when you need them?
