I am starting this tread, but not for my own needs.

I am not a bullion investor, just an interested bystander.

I haven't got the answer, so the reason for the question in the title in this thread.

For those who wish to sell, where and how are bullion coins best sold?

Always good to have an exit strategy if you're wanting to unload some silver.

I'm going to my bullion dealer. I've already discussed with him about trading silver for gold when I'm ready. I've asked my bank about it but they said they would get back to me. I'm guessing they will only take Canadian mint coins, i.e maples.

Many ways, but the one I like is simply turn it loose on ebay, and let the market produce what it is worth....

Last night I searched 100 oz Engelhard figuring it should sell for just over 4200, and the first bar I found was setting at 4150, with 13 hours to go, and the others with "buy it nows", were listed anywhere from 43 to 45 hundred. Funny how that works, but it does. Example, last night I won a civil war coin, the raised version, and this one was a rare 1.8 oz. I won it for 69 bucks. Now then, figuring a 2 oz troy silver coin goes for say 90 at the least now, so 70 bucks is just about right for a coin at 1.8 oz. Now then, it really should have brought closer to 80 for the cool rare factor, and it ended right in the middle of what I call "prime time"....

This leads me to my next point, which I have learned through trial an error on ebay. Best time for an auction to begin and end is say Friday night-Sunday night around 8 o'clock east coast USA, via 11 o'clock west coast. Right after dinner (most get paid on Thurs or Friday), and people are surfing/shopping in those hours before bed....

If I wanted to sell, ebay is offering free listings on the 19th. Start it at a dollar, add fair shipping, and the world will give you what it is worth 99% of the time. Now then you list those items with high "buy it nows", and they may set unsold until the cows come home....

Im nervous about selling on ebay, since the price might continue to rise as you wait for payment or to ship it out. What if the buyer waits to pay until 3 days to see if prices rise or drop?

Im probably just going to answer a Craig's list add and tell them to meet me in my bank. Some adds claim to be buying a dollar or two over spot.

Heck of a good point Cali Nick, had not thought about that angle, but you know if I personally buy something, or am winning bidder, I make it my number one priority to get that item payed for, and always via great communication with seller. For example, if I want something, know I can't pay for say 5 to 7 days, always contact seller and get on same page with them, make sure it is o.k., and if so, I will push the bid up for them even though I don't bid until last 5 seconds. A, so I can win it because I want it to begin with, and B, so the seller can get what the item is worth....

Even if I clicked buy it now on an item, and changed mind later for what ever reason, because of my desire to maintain a solid reputation via buying or selling, I am going to still pay for it and purchase the item. It is just about being loyal to your word IMO. Like for example. Lane Kiffin was not loyal to T.N., where Fulmer always was, and so I figure Derek Dooley to be as well. A person's reputation precedes them, in all actions of his or her life....

I would agree with you in terms of regular buying on ebay, the first two things I bought, I got the bid in at the last second won and paid immediately. #1 to make sure the seller wont change his mind, #2 to make sure I get good feedback since I'm a new ebay-er.

However with this crazy silver market, if the price drops like crazy the next day before the buyer has time to transfer funds or what have you, rest assured he wont pay...feedback be d**med...hehe

I've had good experiences selling on Craigslist. Some pros of selling on ebay are; 1) Possibility of much higher than anticipated realized prices and 2) Safety/Security. The Cons are; 1) Double whammy fees if you go the ebay AND paypal route and 2) Items possibly not selling/Selling for less than anticipated. Bullion dealer pro is cash on the spot and safety, a con is usually bullion dealers pay less than spot. I've had great luck on Craigslist because I get to pick the meeting place, the price and there are not any fees. Really the only drawback on CL is the safety/security problem. However if you just practice a little 'operational security' you can usually mitigate these issues. By that I mean not giving out your address, always meeting in a public place and, if your state allows (which mine does), always carrying a concealed weapon.
Rest in Peace

US ebay buyers know that there's not a tremendous amount that will be done if they welch on their bids.

Not so in the UK, where small claims courts commonly handle $50-100 complaints, and the courts are serious about a contract is a contract.

I agree that ebay can be a good place to buy or sell. I have not bought or sold any PMs or coins there but I did buy my Eldorado there back in 2003. Hey, it's silver in color, so maybe that counts too.

You could sell your silver here on CC and explain that all payments must be received within 24 hours or it will be resold...I believe most members here would probably pay very quickly!!

Problem with ebay is the fees have become outrageous for so many things. I sold a coin yesterday for $800, but the fees all added up to over $70. I could have gotten probably $775 easily on any of the forums...that is what I'll do next time!
Once I get enough posts, I'll sell on here.

Here is a good example of someone with a 100 oz set of mix of mostly bars and some coins killin around 4200 birds with one stone, and they have it all in one auction (saving additional listing fees), and it has drawn 2 bids pushing it too 4150, right about right IMO for what is pictured. They will of course loose more to ebay fees an paypal, but still a decent remaining chunk of change, and if that seller bought all that around the year 2000, they are pretty happy with where it is at about now....

Another thing I like about bullion and coins is their mass is so much smaller than most other things I have bought and shipped on ebay, which makes shipping so much easier when one does decide to sell and cheaper, depending on weight of course....

I've bought most of my silver from APMEX. They might not be the cheapest, but they aren't the most expensive.

They have a very good reputation, and great customer support.

Prices are to high for my taste buds at the moment however.
