Stumbled across this looking for info on a 1972-D LMC DDO coin.I found a 1987-D DDO and sent it in to coppercoins.com http://coppercoins.com/lincoln/dies...ie_state=mds and was told it was the first one they saw.I just found info on http://www.briansvarietycoins.com/shop/view/2424 and it has the same reference number but their coin isn't the same as mine.Just wondering if there should be two different reference numbers if the two coins are not the same die, thought? Thanks much,
John1

The "reference numbers" are determined by the site developer and are not universal across the coin collecting/die variety hobby.

What it boils down to is that we assign numbers to dies completely independently from any other source. Brian uses the WDDO/WDDR system, generally. Since none of the other systems are completely published to the public, we do not know what their die listings contain. We just do all of our work independent from theirs and cross reference what we can.

Do you two agree that the two coins are from different dies or the same coin in different die states or ? Thanks again,

I don't see any die markers on Brian's site. In fact, there is very little of the coin pictured on his site. So, I couldn't say.
