All I can say is that if anybody actually knew what silver or gold were going to do,they would be too rich to be posting about it on here.

I would stick to collecting for your sets

And on that note, I would much rather invest in key date coins than PM's if I were given a choice. To me it would be a no brainer however, I still feel one should have as a hedge, 10-12% PM's in his/her portfolio.

Silver is going to pop.....then what?

Then I believe it will go right back up until it reaches it's historical ratio to gold of 16 to 1 I just hope when it pop's it goes down to the 4-5 dollar range so that I can get in on buying bricks - Stewart

Will that be the time to buy gold with silver?

That's how I felt when I started stacking at $13.00/oz. Then again at $18.00, then it hung around at $26.00 for a while and every purchase felt like it was too high. Same at $30.00. I'll probably feel the same way at $50.00, then again at $70.00, etc.
Matt

You know... I'm reading this and am getting a flash-back deja vu kind of feeling from 2001. I did not buy gold at $250/oz. because nobody really wanted it back then. When it doubled to $500/oz. it looked expensive so I didn't buy it there either. Then it doubled again to $1000/oz. ACK! It is now 1/2 way to yet another double. Holy cow! When to get in?

Some of the answers are:
Batteries
Electronics
Medical Applications
Solar Energy

There are quite a few other uses too which accounts for part of the price increase. We're not running out, but there are more uses for silver than there are for gold.

Politics... the art of stealing money from the people who earned it, giving it to other people who did not, and making both think that this is how things should be done.

Well, according to the web site of The Silver Institute:

Electric power drives the world's industry; its distribution depends upon silver contacts in switches and circuit breakers for efficient control. Silver is used in switches from 3 volts at less than 1 ampere to massive switches and circuit breakers which make and break 500,000 volts at 15,000 amperes. In the latter contacts, the silver is combined with tungsten, molybdenum, or other refractory metals.

Silver contacts in membrane switch panels are now standard in control panels for machinery, chemical industry processes, railway traffic controls and elevator call buttons, to name a few.

Silver oxide / zinc batteries, which have twice the electrical capacity of lead-acid batteries of the same size, have long found extensive use by television crews carrying portable battery packs, in aircraft, and in submersibles where weight is critical. Silver has long been known for its unrivaled performance at high temperatures; it is the only battery, for instance, that can provide reliable power for instrumentation at the high temperatures found at the bottom of oil wells.

Radiography, the use of photographic film to record the internal condition of materials, including stainless steel castings, is the major non-destructive evaluation technique for the discovery of structural fatigue and flaws.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

And, lest we forget, high resolution photography still uses film to achieve great results. The use of silver in photography is less than it used to be but it is still about 15% of the 900 million or so ounces of silver produced annually. [according to Wikipedia]

The thing that is driving commodity prices generally vs. the U.S. dollar, is the 14 trillion dollar debt. That's about $70,000 per head of population. The interest bill on that at 5% is about $70 per week per head.

Most countries around the World have a national debt. What I don't understand is:
Why can't the national debts across all nations be cross cancelled?

I don't think those countries that are owed would be thrilled with that idea

Industrial use of silver is only one component of demand for silver. The rise in silver prices is also driven by investing & speculating. I don't have the figures in front of me but it's my understanding that industrial demand is nowhere near 100% of mine production & that any "shortage" is created by other factors. There is certainly some price level that indutsrial demand will support, but if investors/speculators move on there will be a significant drop.

It dropped a penny under forty for a few hours! The wheels are comin off the silver wagon, I am sellin!

Looks like it has planed back off back up at 8 cents over the 40 Mendoza line....

Once the reality sets in that Obama and company just got what they think is a good deal on a new CREDIT CARD, with free APR for the first year so they can bounce that debt AGAIN , silver and gold and the rest of the gang should start their climb back up againo....
